Announcement | Tongzhou and the Shanghai Academy of Artificial Intelligence have entered into a strategic partnership, with a focus on advancing “AI + IoT.”
Recently, Coship Electronics and the Shanghai Academy of Artificial Intelligence signed a strategic cooperation agreement. The two parties are exploring the establishment of a joint laboratory to pursue the strategic goal of achieving highly automated operations across smart connected‑vehicle sectors, highly intelligent service models, and highly intelligent industrial production—leveraging an “AI + IoT” technological roadmap. Under the agreement, they will engage in deep collaboration across multiple domains, including intelligent connected vehicles, smart buildings, smart parks, and smart cities, jointly pioneering cutting-edge AI‑driven R&D and applications to create cross‑industry digital innovation benchmarks and advance sustainable social development.

The Shanghai Academy of Artificial Intelligence is a new type of research and development institution jointly established by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the People’s Government of Minhang District in Shanghai, Shanghai Lingang Economic Development (Group) Co., Ltd., and SenseTime Shanghai Co., Ltd. It is committed to becoming a “next-generation high-end specialized think tank and an innovative platform for R&D and industrial application.” The Academy focuses on conducting fundamental and core‑technology research in the field of artificial intelligence, while exploring a new model of AI‑driven innovation characterized by application‑oriented approaches, technology leadership, industrial collaboration, and ecosystem integration.
Artificial intelligence is a strategic technology that is driving a new wave of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, exerting profound and far-reaching impacts on economic development, social progress, and the international political‑economic landscape. According to an authoritative interpretation by the National Development and Reform Commission, AI technologies constitute one of the “new‑type technological infrastructures” under the New Infrastructure initiative, as well as one of the “convergent infrastructures” that support the upgrading and transformation of existing infrastructure. As computer scientist Andrew Ng has observed, “Artificial intelligence is the new electricity.” Indeed, AI technologies represent the most critical internal driving force behind the accelerated rollout of this round of New Infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the practical deployment of artificial intelligence across various sectors hinges on the concerted efforts of relevant enterprises and research institutions. In recent years, Tongzhou has proactively invested in emerging IoT domains and markets—including smart buildings, smart parks and campuses, urban IoT cloud platforms, smart communities, and smart cities—leveraging resource integration and technological innovation to successfully establish a smart‑industry ecosystem encompassing “platform + channels + terminals + services.” The Shanghai Institute for Artificial Intelligence envisions that every technological capability should transcend being mere cutting‑edge showpieces; instead, it should translate into tangible products that everyone can readily use. This collaboration will further accelerate the implementation of AI technologies in real‑world, feasible applications, turning them into genuine, effective productivity drivers and unlocking greater practical value. At the same time, both parties will continue to promote the widespread adoption of “AI + IoT” across industries, injecting fresh momentum into industrial upgrading and sustainable social development.

From the perspectives of industrial upgrading and the sustainable development of cities and society, the strategic “AI + IoT” initiative that the two parties are jointly advancing will help shape a future vision of digitalized industrial integration and smarter urban environments. We are confident that, through deeper collaboration between Tongzhou and the Shanghai Institute of Intelligent Systems, we will deliver more innovative experiences to both the industry and broader societal development, ensuring that everyone can benefit from the advancement of “AI + IoT.”
